Essex Field Club
The Essex Field Club is the leading society for natural history and geology enthusiasts in the county. The Club:
  • compiles, maintains and verifies the primary biological database for the county;
  • compiles, maintains and publishes Red Data lists for the county;
  • has a key role in nature conservation and the support of the Essex Biodiversity Action Plan;
  • promotes the publication of natural history guides, surveys and scientific work for Essex;
  • incorporates specialist mammal, bird, invertebrate, flowering plant, fungi and geology groups;
  • holds up to 50 field meetings a year.

    English Nature
    English Nature is the government agency that champions the conservation of wildlife and geology throughout England.

    The Mammal Society
    The Mammal Society works to protect British mammals, halt the decline of threatened species, and advise on all issues affecting British Mammals. It studies mammals, identifies the problems they face and promotes conservation and other policies based on sound science. Specifically, The Mammal Society seeks to:
  • raise awareness of mammals, their ecology and their conservation needs;
  • survey British mammals and their habitats to identify the threats they face;
  • promote mammal studies in the UK and overseas;
  • advocate conservation plans based on sound science;
  • provide current information on mammals through its publications;
  • involve people of all ages in its efforts to protect mammals;
  • educate people about British mammals;
  • monitor mammal population changes.

    Publishers of The Mammals of Essex and many other books on the county’s wildlife.

    DMAP
    DMAP for Windows is mapping software designed specifically for producing distribution maps and coincidence maps that are displayed in colour on-screen with multiple zoom capability. The maps can be printed at high resolution in colour or black and white, or can be exported as high-resolution images to other software for incorporating high-quality maps in reports or publications.
